“What is a CSA”?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.
From LocalHarvest.com :
Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of “shares” to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a “membership” or a “subscription”) and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season.
Why join a CSA?
We are a typical middle class family of 4 living in Maryland. We decided to be part of a CSA for multiple reasons:
- Buying local supports our local economy
- Buying local cuts down on pollution
- Organically grown local food tastes better then the frozen trucked in produce at your local super market
- Forces our family to eat better because we have already invested in the food
- Learn new things to cook
Why CSARecipes.com?
Being a full time web designer and web developer for CM3 Solutions I found it hard to find recipes for some on the produce we are getting from our CSA. Creating a central place for us, as well as other CSA members across the world, to share recipes seemed like the obvious thing to do. If you are a member of a CSA and have a great recipe, please send it to us at info@csarecipes.com. We will post it, give you credit, and even link to your local CSA.
What is the goal of this site?
This site has two goals in mind:
- A central place for good tasting recipes for people who participate in a CSA
- Promote CSAs and their members throughout the country and the world
